Working with Children in Columbia

Chance to Play started working with Ed Murphy who moved from Canada to Columbia to live and help bring a better life communities and families. Until recently, the Colombian government and armed insurgents have been embroiled in a brutal, decades-long conflict. Nearly six million people fled their homes and generations have grown up with violence, instability and hunger.

As the country begins the long journey of recovery, we are working with families and children in Colombia to promote a culture of peace. Communities are increasing their capacity to monitor the rights of children and to respond to situations of risk and abuse. Youths are encouraged to stay in school to help break the cycle of violence. Through investments in health and education, we help youths and families increase their income for a more successful future.

Soccer and Development

Children are trapped by violence, child labour, civil conflict, & forced marriage. Soccer brings unity to communities.

Girl Power

Girls and sustainable development are closely linked. We empower girls and women with education and the power to play soccer.

Education

For many children, education opens doors to all the possibilities for their future. In turn, breaking the cycle of poverty.

Climate Change

Reducing our carbon foot print through recycling and reusing soccer gear eliminates thousands of waste to our landfills.

Building Sustainable Futures Together

Chance to Play team sponsorship in Colombia starts with understanding what is preventing children from surviving and thriving in their community. We then work with the coaches, teachers and parents to bring the pieces of the puzzle together to build a better life for all children. In Columbia, Canadian sponsors and donors are bringing practical, life-changing help to children in real need. Your sponsorship will help support your teams soccer equipment such as uniforms, balls, cleats and coaching gear. We will also mentor and provide programs and skills training to the coaches and teaches. As well as covering tournament fees. Many teams want to play with others but simply not able to afford it.

We are encourage staying in school and continue their education. For many children and youth, school and soccer will keep them away from gangs and conflict in the community and country.
