Making a Big Impact through Sport

Chance to Play has given the children in Mawotto Village, Uganda something to celebrate. Serving the village and providing education to more than 300 children the village school has many needs. The buildings are not well equipped but the teachers and students are filled with incredible joy. On our first day the kids welcomed us with singing and dancing. We had brought several supplies with us knowing that the school lacks some of the most basic materials that we take for granted. We brought with us; books to start a library, school supplies, some laptops for a computer lab and some special gifts given from Chance to Play.It was so incredible to see what happened when we presented the students with two full sets of uniforms, soccer balls and other equipment. The teachers quickly organized the students into two teams for an impromptu tournament. It was amazing to see how quickly the kids and teachers organized themselves and how excited the kids were to play in uniforms, knowing for the first time who was on their team.

The very next day the students and teachers impressed us again as they turned what was a grassy plain into a full fledged soccer field. They cut down trees and began to build goal posts. It was inspiring to see how just a few uniforms and soccer balls could bring such excitement and joy to these young kids and their teachers. Now equipped with what they needed, the teachers are making plans to begin playing with other schools in the region which would never have been possible before. To hear these teachers and students dreaming of a better future simply through the gift of sport was really impactful.

During the last two days at the school, they organized their very own soccer tournament. After many rounds of games, we were able to present the winning team with a trophy that also came from Chance to Play. They felt like real champions and for the first time felt like a genuine soccer team. Your gift has truly given them a “Chance to Play” like so many other children do all throughout the world. By sharing these uniforms and equipment these children were uplifted and will continue to enjoy these gifts for many years to come. Thank you again for your generosity.
